Job description
Our client is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Temporary Consultant Surgeon for a period of 12 months.
The successful candidate will join the existing consultant surgical team and will provide a high standard of consultant-led clinical care to patients attending University Hospital in the west of Ireland.
The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will contribute to the delivery, development and continuous improvement of the surgical service.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
Provide consultant-level clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of patients.
Undertake elective and emergency surgical procedures appropriate to their specialty and level of training.
Participate in outpatient clinics, operating theatre lists, ward rounds and other relevant clinical activities.
Participate in the surgical on-call service, where applicable.
Provide clinical leadership and supervision to non-consultant hospital doctors and other members of the clinical team.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across surgical, medical and multidisciplinary services.
Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and patient-safety initiatives.
Participate in the education, training and supervision of medical students, NCHDs and other healthcare professionals.
Maintain appropriate clinical records and comply with HSE policies, procedures and professional standards.
Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the surgical service.
Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and specialty as may be assigned.
Job requirements
Candidates must, at the latest date for receipt of applications:
Be registered in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the relevant specialty, or fulfil the eligibility requirements for such registration.
Possess the qualifications and experience appropriate to the Consultant post.
Demonstrate appropriate experience in the relevant surgical specialty.
Have the necessary clinical and professional competencies to undertake the duties of the post.
Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and team-working skills.
Have satisfactory evidence of professional competence and continuing professional development.
Meet all other eligibility requirements applicable to the post.
