Job description
Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Locum Consultant Cardiologist to join the cardiology department from Mid January 2027 for 6 months initially maybe extended for a further few months.
The successful appointee will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality inpatient and outpatient cardiology services, supporting acute medical admissions, and leading multidisciplinary clinical care within a regional hospital network.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
Lead inpatient management for acute cardiac admissions, Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and ward-based patients.
Conduct general and specialist outpatient cardiology clinics.
Provide expert consults to the Emergency Department, ICU, and referring medical/surgical specialties.
Oversee and interpret non-invasive cardiac investigations (transthoracic echocardiography, Holter monitoring, stress testing, cardiac CT/MRI where applicable).
Participate in the consultant on-call rota for acute cardiology cover.
Leadership & Administration
Supervise, mentor, and teach Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs), including Registrars, SHOs, and Interns.
Active involvement in clinical audit, quality improvement, risk management, and departmental governance activities.
Work collaboratively with cardiac physiologists, specialist nurses, and allied health professionals.
Job requirements
Mandatory Requirements
Irish Medical Council Registration: Registration on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialty of Cardiology (or immediate eligibility to register).
Clinical Experience: Significant specialist experience in general and acute cardiology at consultant or senior specialist registrar level.
Certifications: Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Right to Work: Legal entitlement to work in Ireland / EU.
Desirable Attributes
Subspecialty training or interest (e.g., Advanced Heart Failure, Imaging, Electrophysiology, or Intervention).
Strong clinical leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Previous experience within the HSE or equivalent public health service structure.
