Job description

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon to join our elective orthopaedic and trauma services team.

The successful applicant will lead operating theatre sessions, manage specialist outpatient clinics, and oversee acute trauma pathways to deliver high-quality, patient-centered surgical care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Surgical Leadership: Perform elective and emergency orthopaedic procedures, including joint replacements, arthroscopic surgery, and complex trauma management.

  • Outpatient & Emergency Care: Conduct specialist outpatient clinics and lead acute trauma call rosters as required by the department.

  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, radiology, and nursing teams to optimize patient rehabilitation pathways.

  • Governance & Quality: Lead clinical audit, risk management, and service design initiatives to align with HSE national clinical programs.

  • Education & Training: Mentor surgical registrars, NSHDs, and medical students while engaging in continuous research and professional development.

Job requirements

  • Registration: Specialist Registration in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) or eligibility for immediate registration.

  • Qualifications: MB BCh BAO (or equivalent), FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent higher specialist training qualification (CSCST).

  • Experience: Comprehensive fellowship training and demonstrated expertise in orthopaedic surgery and acute trauma management.

  • Skills: Strong clinical decision-making, surgical technical skill, and excellent communication abilities
