Woodston Personnel is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Consultant in Hematology & Transfusion Medicine to join our client’s medical team at a leading healthcare facility in Saudi Arabia. The consultant will be responsible for the diagnosis, management, and ongoing care of patients with a wide range of hematological disorders, with a particular focus on transfusion medicine and blood banking. The role involves active participation in clinical services, transfusion protocols, education, research, and departmental leadership.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert hematology care, including the evaluation and management of patients with benign and malignant hematological disorders.

  • Lead and oversee transfusion medicine services, including blood banking, apheresis, and therapeutic phlebotomy.

  • Provide expert guidance on the appropriate use of blood and blood products in clinical settings.

  • Ensure compliance with transfusion safety standards, hemovigilance protocols, and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in hematopathology reviews, bone marrow procedures, and laboratory oversight where applicable.

  • Engage in multidisciplinary meetings and tumor boards to optimize patient outcomes.

  • Provide on-call coverage for hematology and transfusion services as required.

  • Take a leadership role in developing institutional transfusion policies and clinical guidelines.

  • Supervise and ensure quality assurance in blood transfusion practices and laboratory operations.

  • Collaborate with the blood bank, clinical laboratories, and infection control teams to maintain high safety and quality standards.

  • Participate in clinical governance, morbidity and mortality reviews, and audit processes.

  • Mentor and guide junior staff, fellows, and residents in hematology and transfusion medicine.

  • Contribute to research and innovation in hematology and transfusion practices.

  • Support clinical trials and investigator-led studies within the department.

  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.

  • Participate in the training and education of medical students, residents, and clinical staff.

  • Organize and deliver continuing medical education (CME) and departmental teaching sessions.

  • Promote awareness and training on transfusion safety and best practices.

Job requirements

Essential Qualifications (One of the following certifications is required):

  • US Board Certification in Hematology (Internal Medicine pathway or Pathology pathway)

  • FRCS / FRCPath / FRCP (Hematology) – Recognized from UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand

  • Diplôme d'Études Spécialisées (DES) or CIS – French Board in Hematology or Transfusion Medicine

  • Facharzt (Germany, Austria, or Switzerland) in Hematology and/or Transfusion Medicine with subspecialty training or fellowship

  • CCST UK – Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Hematology (UK)

Minimum 3–5 years post-board/fellowship experience in Hematology and/or Transfusion Medicine, preferably in a tertiary or academic setting.

Proven expertise in managing transfusion services, including blood banking, component therapy, apheresis, and transfusion reaction management.

Experience in quality improvement, transfusion audits, and regulatory compliance is highly desirable.
