Job description
Woodston Personnel are seeking an experienced Trauma Surgeon Consultant to join our client’s hospital in Saudi Arabia. The Consultant in Trauma Surgery will provide senior clinical leadership and expert surgical care for patients with traumatic injuries. The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of a high-quality trauma service, contributing to the management of severely injured patients across the trauma pathway from initial resuscitation through definitive surgical care and rehabilitation planning.
Duties and Responsbilities
Provide consultant-led trauma surgical care, including the assessment, resuscitation, operative management, and post-operative care of patients with traumatic injuries
Act as Trauma Team Leader for major trauma activations, coordinating multidisciplinary teams in accordance with trauma protocols and national standards
Perform emergency trauma surgery, including damage control surgery and definitive operative management, as appropriate to expertise
Deliver inpatient ward care and outpatient follow-up for trauma patients
Participate in the management of critically injured patients in collaboration with emergency medicine, anaesthesia, intensive care, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, and other surgical specialties
Contribute to rapid decision-making regarding operative versus non-operative management, interventional radiology, and transfer to specialist services
Ensure effective communication with patients and families, including consent, prognostic discussions, and end-of-life care where appropriate
Contribute to the organisation and delivery of a 24/7 trauma service, including rota planning and consultant cover
Support the development and implementation of trauma pathways, protocols, and standard operating procedures
Work within regional trauma networks, liaising with referring hospitals, retrieval services, and rehabilitation providers
Provide senior clinical leadership during high-pressure and time-critical situations
Participate actively in trauma governance, including morbidity and mortality meetings, audit, and trauma registry data submission
Lead or contribute to quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving trauma outcomes and patient safety
Ensure compliance with national trauma standards, clinical guidelines, and accreditation requirements
Provide education, supervision, and mentorship for surgical trainees, junior doctors, and members of the multidisciplinary team
Contribute to simulation training, trauma courses (e.g. ATLS or equivalent), and continuing professional development activities
Participate in clinical research, audit, and innovation within trauma surgery
Support the academic and educational mission of the department where applicable
Participate in the trauma and emergency surgery on-call rota, including out-of-hours and weekend cover
Provide senior advice and support to emergency and surgical teams as required

Job requirements
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
US Board/ FRCS - Irish, UK, Canadian, New Zealand or Australian/ Diploma d'Etudes Specialises (DES)/ CIS French Board/ Fachart & Sub- Board/ Fellowship / Board / Fellowship / Sweden / Belgium / Finland / Spain
Must have at least 3-5 years of post-consultant or senior specialist experience
Eligible for consultant licensure with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
