Job description

Woodston Personnel are seeking an experienced Consultant in Palliative Care to join the team of a leading hospital in Saudi Arabia. TThe Consultant in Palliative Care provides expert, patient-centred clinical leadership in the assessment and management of patients with life-limiting illnesses. The role focuses on improving quality of life through comprehensive symptom control, psychosocial support, advance care planning, and coordination of care across settings. The consultant works collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and contributes to education, service development, and quality improvement in palliative care services.

Duties and Responsbilities

  • Provide specialist palliative care consultation for patients with complex physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs

  • Lead and support the management of pain and other distressing symptoms

  • Participate in inpatient, outpatient, hospice, and/or community palliative care services as required

  • Support advance care planning, goals-of-care discussions, and end-of-life decision-making

  • Work closely with patients, families, and caregivers to ensure compassionate, culturally sensitive care

  • Collaborate with primary teams and referring specialties to integrate palliative care early in the disease trajectory

  • Provide clinical leadership within the palliative care multidisciplinary team

  • Support junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals in palliative care practice

  • Contribute to service planning, development, and evaluation

  • Promote best practice, ethical decision-making, and patient advocacy

  • Deliver education and training in palliative care principles to healthcare professionals

  • Supervise and mentor trainees, fellows, and other staff as appropriate

  • Contribute to teaching programs, case discussions, and clinical meetings

  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service evaluation

  • Contribute to research activities, where applicable

  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, safety standards, and regulatory requirements

Job requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

  • US Board/ FRCS - Irish, UK, Canadian, New Zealand or Australian/ Diploma d'Etudes Specialises (DES)/ CIS French Board/ Fachart & Sub- Board/ Fellowship / Board / Fellowship / Sweden / Belgium / Finland / Spain

  • Must have at least 3-5 years of post-consultant or senior specialist experience

  • Eligible for consultant licensure with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
