Job description

Woodston Personnel are seeking an experienced Consultant in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to join our client’s hospital in Saudi Arabia. The Consultant will provide expert clinical leadership in the assessment, stabilization, and management of critically ill patients. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based critical care services while supporting multidisciplinary teamwork, patient safety, and continuous improvement within the ICU.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive management of critically ill adult patients, including advanced resuscitation, organ support, and life-sustaining therapies.

  • Lead daily multidisciplinary ward rounds and develop individualized care plans.

  • Perform and supervise critical procedures such as airway management, central venous access, arterial line insertion, and ultrasound-guided interventions.

  • Oversee the safe use of mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, hemodynamic monitoring, and sedation/analgesia protocols.

  • Ensure rapid assessment and management of ICU admissions, transfers, and emergencies.

  • Review and approve discharge plans from the ICU to ensure continuity of care.

  • Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to ICU physicians, residents, nurses, and allied health staff.

  • Facilitate effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.

  • Participate in on-call duties as per departmental schedules.

  • Contribute to the development of a positive, collaborative, and safe working environment.

  • Ensure compliance with national and international critical care best-practice guidelines.

  • Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Support implementation of infection prevention and control practices within the ICU.

  • Promote patient safety, risk management, and adherence to accreditation standards.

  • Provide formal and informal teaching for medical trainees, nursing staff, and allied professionals.

  • Contribute to continuing professional development activities and educational programs.

  • Support simulation-based training for emergency response and critical care procedures.

  • Participate in or lead clinical research, audits, and evidence-based practice initiatives.

  • Promote innovation in critical care delivery, technology use, and patient outcomes.

  • Assist with ICU service planning, resource utilization, and staffing.

  • Contribute to policy development, clinical pathway design, and departmental protocols.

  • Represent the ICU in relevant hospital committees and external professional networks.

Job requirements

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

US Board/ FRCS - Irish, UK, Canadian, New Zealand or Australian/ Diploma d'Etudes Specialises (DES)/ CIS French Board/ Fachart & Sub- Board/ Fellowship / Board / Fellowship / Sweden / Belgium / Finland / Spain

Must have at least 3-5 years of post-consultant or senior specialist experience

Eligible for consultant licensure with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
