Job description

Our client invites applications for the position of Consultant Gastroenterologist & General Physician to join a multidisciplinary clinical team delivering high-quality patient care within the Irish public health system.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will provide consultant-level care in Gastroenterology and General Medicine, contributing to inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services as required. The role involves clinical leadership, teaching, service development, and participation in on-call rotas in line with HSE requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist consultant services in Gastroenterology and General Medicine

  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic gastrointestinal and general medical conditions

  • Perform and oversee endoscopic procedures in accordance with best clinical practice

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and care planning

  • Contribute to teaching, training, audit, and research activities

  • Support service development, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives

  • Participate in the consultant on-call rota as required

Eligibility & Requirements

Applicants must, on the closing date:

  • Be registered (or eligible for registration) on the Specialist Register of the Medical Council of Ireland in Gastroenterology and/or General Internal Medicine

  • Hold appropriate postgraduate qualifications and training

  • Demonstrate significant experience at consultant or equivalent level

  • Have excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills

  • Be eligible to work in Ireland

Desirable Criteria

  • Subspecialty interest within Gastroenterology

  • Experience in service development and clinical governance

  • Commitment to continuous professional development and teaching

Salary & Conditions

  • Appointment will be made under the Consultant Contract 2023 (or relevant HSE contract)

  • Salary and conditions are in accordance with HSE and Department of Health guidelines
