Job description

Woodston Personnel have an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Adult Liver Transplant Surgeon with our client in KSA. The successful candidate will play a key role in the management and surgical treatment of patients with end-stage liver disease, including both liver transplantations from deceased and living donors. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in liver transplantation surgery, a commitment to patient-centered care, and the desire to contribute to the advancement of the field through research and education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Surgical Care: Perform adult liver transplant surgeries, including deceased donor and living donor liver transplants. Provide comprehensive care from pre-operative assessment to post-operative management, ensuring optimal outcomes for liver transplant recipients.

  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with hepatologists, transplant coordinators, anesthesiologists, critical care physicians, and other specialists to provide coordinated, multidisciplinary care for transplant patients.

  • Patient Management: Oversee the management of transplant candidates and recipients, ensuring appropriate pre-transplant work-up, immunosuppressive management, and post-operative care. Monitor for complications such as graft rejection, infection, and other transplant-related issues.

  • Training & Mentorship: Provide mentorship and training to junior surgeons, fellows, residents, and medical students. Contribute to the educational programs and participate in departmental seminars, workshops, and conferences.

  • Research & Innovation: Lead or participate in research initiatives aimed at advancing the field of liver transplantation, particularly in the areas of surgical techniques, immunosuppressive therapy, and post-transplant outcomes. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.

  • Quality Improvement: Contribute to quality improvement efforts in the transplant service, including the development of clinical pathways, audit of patient outcomes, and the implementation of evidence-based practices.

  • Patient & Family Communication: Effectively communicate with patients and their families about the liver transplant process, risks, benefits, and post-operative care. Provide support and guidance through the emotional and psychological aspects of transplantation.

Job requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education & Certification:

    • US Board Certification in Transplant Surgery (or equivalent).

    • FRCS (Ireland, UK), or Board Certification from Canada, New Zealand, or Australia in Liver Transplantation Surgery or a closely related field.

    • Diploma d'Etudes Spécialisées (DES) / CIS (French Board).

    • Facharzt & Sub-Board / Fellowship in Liver Transplantation with a minimum of 3-4 years of experience post-Board / Fellowship.

    • Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) from the UK (preferred).

  • Experience:

    • A minimum of 3-4 years of post-Board/Fellowship experience in liver transplantation surgery, with extensive experience in both living donor and deceased donor liver transplants.

    • In-depth experience managing complex liver transplant cases, including those with complications such as graft rejection, biliary issues, and infections.

    • Proficiency in the use of advanced technologies and techniques related to liver transplantation.

  • Skills:

    • Strong clinical and surgical expertise in adult liver transplantation, including experience with the full range of procedures and post-operative management.

    • Expertise in managing immunosuppression and other complex aspects of post-transplant care.

    • Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.

    • Ability to lead, educate, and collaborate within a diverse healthcare team.

  • Professional Development:
